The Northeast PULSE Fellows will be facilitating an in-person regional workshop on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 9 am to 4 pm at Bay Path University: Philip H. Ryan Health Science Center, East Longmeadow, MA. We invite a team from your institution to participate in this exciting opportunity for strategic planning and networking designed to help you and your colleagues meet the challenges posed in the Vision & Change report as we all work toward ensuring effective life science education for the 21st century.
To gain the most from this workshop, we encourage teams of two or three people from interested Departments to participate. We recommend teams be composed of a Life Science/Biology department chair, another faculty member in the department, and a third person (e.g. student, tenure-track or adjunct faculty member, or administrator such as a dean who oversees your Life Science Department). If teams are not feasible, individuals from departments are also welcome.
This workshop will provide opportunities to:
-
assess the current alignment of your department with Vision and Change using PULSE rubrics
-
reflect upon your current situation and monitor progress toward your future departmental goals
-
learn about the strategies used by departments that have successfully adopted the Vision and Change recommendations
-
learn about resources for life science education
-
brainstorm within your team and with other teams to develop a strategic plan for change.
-
assess diversity, equity, and inclusion using the new PULSE DEI rubrics.
-
For previous participants in PULSE programs, a separate breakout will provide a short refresher training about the action plan process, help you assess your progress toward your goals, and facilitate the creation of new goals.
The fee for the workshop is $300 for each institutional team of up to 3 people, or $150 for individuals; fee waivers are available, if needed. This fee includes registration, lunch and snacks. No payment is due until your team has been accepted. If you are interested, please complete the electronic application form.
